Paris, Tenn. - The team of Deputy Ricky Wade and his K-9 partner Striker have made another huge hit--this time to the tune of $14,000 in drug money.

Weston Hall Discussion on School Agenda Tonight

PARIS (July 24) A discussion on the deteriorating condition of Weston Hall on the Grove campus will be tonight at the monthly Henry County School System meeting.

Printed reports for the architectural fire of Kaatz, Binkley, Jones, and Morris indicates the facility is deficient in several areas as it relates to safety.
 

Assault Arrest

Paris, Tenn. - A Paris man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following an incident in which his victim crashed his car into the former Hungry Wolf restaurant at 715 W. Wood St.

They're Back! Hummers Reappear


If you look carefully, you can see the tiny hummingbird sitting on the purple leaf of the moses in the boat plant in photo. The hummingbird was enjoying a mid-evening repast at the home of Lucille Clendenin on Ogburn St. in Paris.

Paris, Tenn. - Lovers of hummingbirds will be heartened by the re-emergence of their beloved birds to the local area.

Reflections With Arthur Lodge: Driving and Patience

"Must be an old man wearing a hat." I commented to my wife as we followed the ancient pick-up truck up hills and around turns on the twisty, country road.

My patience was sorely tried when the driver braked going downhill at the breathtaking speed of twenty-five miles-per-hour. The posted speed limit was fifty-five, but the truck had probably not reached that speed since Eisenhower was president.

A unit of the Tennessee Army National Guard is headed to the Horn of Africa.

Trinity Funerals Will Go On

A state fire marshal team prepares to enter the Trinity Funeral Home structure Wednesday morning. Assistant Paris Fire Chief Vic Mallard said the team will be on the scene of the fire "at least all day today" and will issue a report later.

Paris, Tenn. - Owners of the Trinity Funeral Home have pledged to continue providing funerals for the local community, despite the loss of their business to a suspicious fire Tuesday.

Urgent Blood Need

LIFELINE Blood Services has issued an urgent message to the entire West Tennessee community. There is a critical need for all blood types. Currently there is less than one day supply of blood for local hospitals. "We are issuing an immediate appeal for blood in order to meet the demands for West Tennessee patients," said Joe Schifano, CEO at LIFELINE Blood Services. "The current situation is serious and without immediate response from blood donors, it is possible that the blood inventory for West Tennessee patients could reach emergency levels," he added. Blood donors are urged to give blood this week.
 

College Street Repairs



Paris, Tenn. - City of Paris crews were working hard Tuesday morning to install a new water line along College Street. Worker Brian Bizeau explained that the water line installation is in preparation for a new sidewalk which will be installed there. Paris, Tenn. - Gardeners live for this. One of the best surprises is when you go outside and find thaovernight--your garden has sprouted surprise lilies. These pretty surprises are blooming at the home of Lucille Clendenin on Ogburn Street. "I always grew up calling them 'naked ladies',"she said. "But I know most people call them 'surprise lilies'." Water Run A Fun Success



Buchanan, Tenn. - Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Wheatley said the weekend's Water Run was a great success. "We had a great day, with at least 250 players this year," Wheatley said. BPU Goes With Low Bid On Insurance

Paris, Tenn. - After reviewing two bids for business insurance, members of the Paris Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Tuesday accepted the low bid from Tennessee Municipal League (TML) Pool, which is the district’s present provider.

Paris, Tenn. - A Paris man crashed his vehicle into the side of the old Hungry Wolf restaurant building on 715 West Wood Street around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday after allegedly being assaulted.

Stabbing Incident Fatal to McKenzie Woman

A domestic disturbance that turned deadly late Wednesday evening left a 58-year-old McKenzie woman dead, and a Gleason man critically injured, according to Sgt. Richard Sawyers of the McKenzie Police Department.

Carroll County Mayor Asks Court to Dismiss Sheriff’s Lawsuit

HUNTINGDON (July 18) – A motion was filed Wednesday, July 16 asking Judge Allen W. Wallace to dismiss Carroll County Sheriff Bendell Bartholomew’s lawsuit against county Mayor Kenny McBride, fiscal agent for the county of Carroll. Retired Senior Judge Wallace of Waverly was assigned the case after circuit judges Creed McGinley and Donald Parish both recused themselves.

Sally is a beautiful, female border collie mix and is such a smart dog. She has been spayed, received her rabies shot and is ready to go. Sally would do best in a one dog home and she will bring much love to the right home. Please come meet Sally.
 

TDOT Breaks Ground on State Route 99 Improvement Project

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Gerald Nicely joined state and local officials in Rutherford County today to break ground on a new State Route 99 widening project. The project is four and a half miles in length and stretches from SR 16 to west of Concord Road. Once finished, the project will provide a number of improvements to this busy stretch of roadway.
 

Alexander Celebrates Dedication of Nissan’s $100 Million Headquarters in Tennessee

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today gave the following remarks while joining Governor Phil Bredesen and Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn to celebrate the dedication of Nissan Americas, a $100 million investment in Franklin, Tenn., housing Nissan’s corporate operations for the United States, Canada and Mexico. Nissan announced the decision to move its North American corporate offices to Tennessee in 2005 and is now completing the move.

Paris, Tenn. - The art work of Angie Smith of Cottage Grove will be featured at this Friday's monthly art show and sale at the Lee Academy for the Arts. The free show is from 5-8 p.m. at the Academy, 402 Lee St., Paris.

Paris, Tenn. - National Guitar Thumbpicking Champion Alonzo Pennington will perform a free concert at the Paris Winery Saturday evening.
 

'Suspicious' Fire Destroys Trinity


1. Firefighters use the department's ladder truck to quench the hot spots at Trinity Funeral Home, which was destroyed by fire. In the bucket of the truck are Capt. Charlie Hodge and Firefighter Chris Ashby. - 2. Water flows down the front steps of the funeral home. - 3. Smoke and water make for an eerie scene through the front window of the funeral home.

Paris, Tenn. - Trinity Funeral Home was destroyed by an early-morning fire that Fire Chief Michael Williams termed "suspicious".

Paris firefighters were called to the scene at 808 Depot St. around 4:15 a.m. by Officer Michael Ramos, who spotted it while he was on patrol.

Two Juveniles Reported Missing

Sean Michael Oliver was reported missing around noon by his mother and was last seen wearing a red and white stripped shirt, long blue shorts, and a black baseball cap with NY on it.LOCATED - Mariah Amber Decru has been found.


Paris, Tenn. - One local juvenile is still missing.

According to reports by Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Wayne Fugua, Sean Michael Oliver, 16, of 7975 Hwy 69 North was picked up for a doctor’s appointment and dropped back off at Maverick gas station in Paris on Friday morning.

In another report, Mariah Amber Decru, 12, of 40 Dorsey Road in Henry was reported missing on Sunday around 1 p.m. She has since be located.
