Two Veteran Educators Retire

PARIS, Tenn. (May 8, 2008) – Veteran educators Margaret (Beth) E. Taylor and Patricia Atchison were honored during an emotional retirement announcement Thursday at the Henry County School Board. Mrs. Taylor began her career in 1971 as a teacher’s assistant, completed her schooling, became a classroom teacher, and later a K-8 principal completing her tenure as principal at Harrelson. Superintendent Kriesky said Mrs. Taylor began her day by hugging each student and she received a hug back.  By Joel Washburn washburn@mckenziebanner.com

Paris, Tenn. - The Henry County High School varsity boys baseball team won a come-from-behind victory over Rossview Thursday night to capture the District 10-AAA Championship. Final score was 17-16.

Paris PD Reports: Thefts, Vandalism Reported
Paris, Tenn. - A resident of Old Paris Murray Road reported on Saturday that someone had stolen her black leather billfold from her purse. According to a report by Ptl. Eric Long, the victim stated the billfold was stolen from her purse while visiting friends at a Washington Court apartment. Paris, Tenn. - The case against a man charged with beating a 65-year-old man to death has been continued until July 14.

Reflections With Arthur Lodge: Crosses On A Sunday Drive
It was not a sight I needed to see while on a pleasant Sunday morning drive.
But there it was, another church lawn had sprouted hundreds of white knee-high crosses in neat rows. Just when one house of worship had removed their protest against abortion in the United States, another planted what looked like a miniature cemetery in the yard. The sight brought my previously carefree drive to an abrupt halt.

Catfish Derby Comes to Paris Landing
The Paris Landing Tourism League announces the first Catfish Derby
held at Paris Landing. The Derby is a free event and is a preliminary
for the Big Cat Quest catfishing tournament on May 31st. Participants
may weigh their catches at Hulmes Sporting Goods in Paris, Lakeview
Grocery at Paris Landing, or Hooks N' Horns (Bass Pro retailer).

NSK Opens First Japanese Auto Supply Facility in Dyersburg

Steering Systems today to celebrate the grand opening of their new
facility in Dyersburg. The 100,000-square-foot plant will house 140
employees and represents a capital investment of more than $6 million.

McCarter to Address Leadership Class
Sherri McCarter, Regional Economic Development Specialist with the State of Tennessee, Department of Economic and Community Development, will serve as keynote speaker for the graduation of the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce's 2007-08 Leadership Henry County class, scheduled for 6 pm on Thursday, May 22nd at the Lafayette Room of the Econo Lodge. McCarter is Henry County's liaison with the Three Star program and a frequent leadership class session speaker.

Quota Club Hosts District Conference

Paris Landing State Park - The Paris Quota Club hosted the 54th Annual 23rd District Conference at Paris Landing Inn May 2-4. The theme of the conference was "The Power of the Purse". County Mayor Brent Greer welcomed Quotarians and guests at the opening ceremony on Friday night. A Fun Style Show was held with members modeling fun dresses such as cotton dress, check pajamas, print dress, garden dress and many others.
